Calaveras County is home to the headwaters and/or upper reaches of three major rivers: the Calaveras River, Stanislaus River and Mokelumne River. The protection of these headwaters is crucial to not only the ecosystems, working lands, and economies of Calaveras, but of the communities downstream as well.

The CCRCD’s Watershed Program was established in 2026 and developed by the Calaveras County Watershed Committee, a standing sub-committee of the CCRCD Board of Directors. The program is focused on preserving the resources of all our county’s waterways through monitoring, public education and implementation of restoration projects.
